Steve & Michelle’s Guide to Bourton-On-The-Water

So, you’re in Bourton-on-the-Water–welcome! We’re Steve and Michelle, and as the folks behind The Mousetrap Inn, we’ve had plenty of time to figure out the best spots around. Whether you’re here for a day or a longer stay, here are some of our top picks to help you enjoy the village like a local.

Coffee: The Den

The Den is a little family-run café where you can enjoy a great coffee and a proper catch-up. It’s the kind of place where the barista might know your name by the second visit, and where you can settle in and watch Bourton wake up at its own leisurely pace.

Ice Cream: Box Bush

When the sun’s out (or even when it’s not—ice cream doesn’t judge), Box Bush makes some seriously good homemade gelato that’s worth every lick. Honestly, it’s an excuse to get out for a walk by the river, but really, any excuse will do.

Walk: The Windrush Way

Just a short stroll from The Mousetrap is Windrush Way, a peaceful riverside walk that lets you soak up the countryside without wandering too far. It’s a great spot to clear your head and take in the views at your own pace.

Local Shop: Bourton’s Little Sweet Shop

If you have a sweet tooth or want to channel your inner child, this is the place. Bourton’s Local Sweet Shop is packed with classic sweets that bring back memories (and possibly a sugar rush). Great for treats, gifts, or bribing the kids.

Family-Friendly Activity: Birdland

Birdland is a family favourite, home to everything from flamboyant flamingos to tiny owls and brightly coloured parrots. The well-kept gardens make for a peaceful stroll, while the birds provide plenty of entertainment, whether it’s watching penguins waddle or spotting exotic feathers among the trees. It’s a great spot to relax, explore, and keep everyone entertained.

Hidden Gem: The Christmas Shop

Open all year round, the Christmas Shop is one of those places you didn’t know you wanted to visit until you’re inside. It’s filled with decorations, ornaments, and enough festive sparkle to make you briefly consider digging out the fairy lights, regardless of the month.
