Festive Things To Do In Bourton-On-The-Water This Christmas
As the village gears up for the festive season, we (Steven and Michelle) always find ourselves caught up in the excitement. Whether you’re staying with us at The Mousetrap or simply passing through, this time of year brings a mix of cosy traditions, sparkling lights, and little local gems that make the Cotswolds feel extra special. Here are a few of our favourite ways to enjoy it all.
Warm Up With A Snowman Hot Chocolate
Before you set off exploring, swing by the Fresh for Lunch kiosk in the heart of the village. Their Snowman Hot Chocolate is wonderfully indulgent, rich chocolate, plenty of toppings, and just the right amount of festive cheer.

Bourton’s Magical Christmas Display
The Christmas lights in Bourton always bring a bit of magic, but nothing beats the Christmas tree standing proudly in the centre of the River Windrush. When the lights flicker across the water and the bridges glow softly, it feels like the whole village has stepped into a winter tale.
Take A Frosty Walk To The Slaughters
If you’re after fresh air and countryside calm, wrap up warm and follow the path to Lower and Upper Slaughter. The Cotswold stone villages look especially lovely against wintery fields, and the walk is peaceful, simple, and full of charm.

Visit The Victorian Christmas Shop
The Christmas Shop in Bourton is the place to go for festive decorations, ornaments, and gifts. It’s a handy spot to pick up a few things to brighten up your home or bring a bit of Christmas cheer to friends and family.
